'66 has to be the Camaro. It gave the Mustang serious competition, and an American icon.
'67, not too sure here.

1967 Corvette L88
It was the last of the C2 generation and, from a performance perspective, arguably the best. The L88 was a race car for the road (I know, I know... overused ad speak) but if you're going to claim the GT40 Mk IV (purely a race car), I can claim the L88.

for '66
i mean sure it was never a race car and it wasn't the fastest nor the best car or the best looking (i prefer the later kamm-tails) but it did have many things going for it a beautiful Italian design, a really i mean really nice engine plus it was cheap NADA (because its almost midnight and i couldn't be damned to google it) has the original MSRP at 4,886
and those wheels like srsly
(yes i am completely biased in this post)
now excuse me as i am too tired to think of a '67 car

So many great cars... but maybe worth an honorable mention to the 66-67 2nd-generation Buick Riviera. One of my favorite full-sized cruising coupes, especially as a resto-mod.

This pimpmobile, the Pontiac Parisienne! And its closely related cousins, the Bonneville, Catalina, and so on.

Dammit, I was going off production years. It started production in '66 as a '67 model.
I hate how manufacturers do that.

At one time "race car for the road" actually did mean something, when they came with stripped interiors, no AC/heating, bucket seats, motors that required constant maintenance, and a suspension without compromises for comfort BUT were also available at a dealership and certified for road use.
Now it just means "faster than the base model!"

1967 Cadillac Eldorado - FWD = the future. Cadillac's current styling was influenced heavily by this car.
1967 Oldsmobile Toronado - FWD = the future. The Jetway 707 will make you think your on drugs.
1967 Chevrolet Impala

forget plane jane gt500s. The 170 mph, gt40 powered ' 67 gt500 super snake is king of mustangs.
Also the scrumptious, v12-powered, xj13 from '66 is too epic not to mention
